Old, Water Crest Brand, Shrimp Tin

Old oyster cans are fun to find but vintage tins like this one for shrimp are even more unusual. The graphics on the front panel shows shrimp in a silver cocktail dish. It reads; Wet Pack Drained Weight 7 - Ounces - Production Supervised by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. There is a recipe for Shrimp Salad on one panel and Shrimp Cocktail on the other. It was distributed by the Dorgan Packing Corp. of Biloxi, Mississippi. This is the style can that was not self opening and needed a can opener. It has been opened and is empty with the bottom in tact but no top lid present. I believe this is probably from the 1940’s or early 1950’s.

It measures about 4” tall by 2 5/8” in diameter and is in basically good condition. The colors and gloss are good with light scuff and scratch wear and shallow dents and dimples. The bottom is dimpled and the inside has rust in the bottom.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
