This vintage, desk top pencil sharpener is a Draftsman’s Special made by the Automatic Pencil Sharpener Co. of Illinois. The base and handle are made of painted metal and the knob on the handle is painted to match. The canister has metal sides with a plastic surround for the shavings. The clear plastic has a painted panel that has the model name and a picture of a pointed pencil. The end where the pencil goes is attached to the barrel and turns to accept six different sized pencils. The barrel is removable for emptying the shavings. The base has two holes so it can be screwed to a desk for stability and convenience.
Overall it measures about 4” high and 5 1/8” across at the handle. The canister portion measures about 2 1/8” wide by 2 ½” deep at the widest part. It is in good, original condition with light wear. There is a small amount of nicks to the paint on the handle and wear on the knob. There is some scratch wear to the painted label and the plastic is slight warped so it doesn’t snug up to the contour of the metal frame. It is still in usable condition.
