Old Houck’s, Ever-Ready Can Opener - 1912

This vintage can opener is not as primitive as some but it's not your modern variety either. It is marked; Houck’s Ever-Ready Can & Bottle Opener - Pat. Oct.29, 12. I haven’t been able to figure out exactly how it was used but the bar slides in and out as some sort of size adjustment and the hook is obviously to be used as the bottle opener. The handle is painted wood.

It measures about 6 ¼” in length in the short position and about 8 ½” long when fully extended. As things go it’s in good condition with wear from use and light rust. The black paint on the wood handle is blotchy and slightly dull but not badly worn.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
