This vintage ice cream dipper was manufactured by the F.S. Co. of Troy, New York. It is made of nickel plated brass with a painted wood handle. The round, size 20 bowl (twenty scoops to the quart) is marked on the back side of the bowl as well as on the wiper. On the back of the lever mechanism it has the patent date of Mar. 23 19(15), the last two number are obscured but it is documented to that date. The thumb lever reads; Clipper F.S.Co. 4.
It measures about 10 3/8” in length and the bowl measures about 2 1/8” in diameter. It is in good condition with minor wear. The spring mechanism works well. The plating is generally good with minimal blemishes and there are a few spots where it is worn down to the brass. There is light nick wear on the shaft from being rapped against an ice cream carton edge. The wiper in the bowl is just slightly out of round. The finish on the handle is a little blotchy and shows signs of normal wear. Overall it's a clean ice cream scoop in original condition.
