This vintage bell has a very decorative, nickel plated, cast iron base with three cherub faces acting as the feet. Each face appears to have ornamentation over the head and there are angel wings flanking the face. The edge is heavily detailed all the way around. The bell portion is pressed steel that has a nickel plating. The plunger for the clapper has a knurled, nickel plated, brass knob with a matching piece close to the bell. As decorative as this is I would imagine it being from a fine hotel but this could have been found on any number of old counters, often with a little sign saying; Ring for Service. Whether at a hotel desk or next to the cash register of the general store this has a distinctive ring that we all have some remembrance of. On the inside it has Dep and “18”.
It measures about 4 ½” in diameter with the feet extending slightly further. It measures about 2 ¾” to the top of the plunger. It is in very nice, original condition with minor wear. The base is in very good condition with minimal wear to the plating. The dome is fairly good with some discoloration and spots where the plating is worn. Most of the plating is worn from the two knurled pieces so the brass is showing through. The bell sets slightly askew to the base, off center and slightly tilted. It still has a beautiful “ding” when the plunger is struck.
