Old Souvenir Spoon - Sterling Silver, Colorado Springs, Colo.

This vintage, sterling spoon is a souvenir of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The inside of the bowl just has the name but the handle is nicely detailed front and back. The front of the handle has many elements fount in the Seal of Colorado. At the top is the eye of God within a triangle from which rays radiate on two sides. Next is a battle axe bound by thongs followed by what appears to be a mountain. Then there are the crossed pick and sledge hammer and a scroll with the motto; Nil Sine Numine. Lastly are three mountain peaks and a miner’s burro. The back is equally interesting with a depiction of the state capitol, what appears to be a turnip and a scene with a structure that I can’t make out, perhaps a barn. Also on the back is the word Sterling as well an “SSMC” which is for The Sterling Silver Manufacturing Co. of Rhode Island.

It measures about 5 1/8” long and is in very nice condition with minimal wear.
