Old, B.P.O.E., Aluminum, “Hello Bill” Elk Plaque

This is an interesting, vintage Elks Lodge piece. The emblem is made of cast aluminum which is partially painted. The elk head is in relief and between the antlers is the clock emblem with the star. Below the elk head it reads; Hello Bill. This saying originated in the late 1800’s due to William Goddard, a member of Lodge #44 of Minneapolis. Since that time “Hello Bill” has apparently been recognized as a friendly greeting between lodge members. The elk head, its antlers and the clock, except for the hands, have a light coat of off white paint. The eyes, mouth and nostrils have black paint. There are two small holes on the casting bars on the back. I’m not sure how this was used or on what it might have been mounted but I would assume it was used in a Lodge.

It measures about 5 ¾” high by approximately 4” across the antlers. The casting is in nice condition with no breaks or cracks. The paint is weak and worn off in many areas.
