This vintage, celluloid button is advertising the Star Egg Carrier & Tray Mfg. Co. of Rochester, New York. It has colorful graphics of the egg carrier full of unbroken eggs with a smaller picture of the “old method”, a bag with broken egg! Along the edge of the celluloid piece is the maker; J.B. Carroll Chicago. Attached to the back of the celluloid button is a metal clip that could be hung on the wall for holding bills or notes. The top edge of the spring clip is marked Spencerian.
The button is the same size as most of the old advertising pocket mirrors, it measures about 1 ¾” in diameter. The celluloid has good color and gloss with minor scuff wear and bumps, no splits. There are two small, dark areas to the right of the egg crate that might be stains instead of shadows. I have shown a close-up for better inspection. The metal clip has some light rust. The spring works and retains most of the original bluing.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
