This small utility knife is decorative enough to have been used as an old watch fob with the loop at the top so it could be hung from a chain. It appears to be nickel or perhaps silver plated brass with the same simple detail and a place that would have taken a monogram, on either side. It was made by the Autostrop Safety Razor Co. and comes with its original paper literature. The folded sheet shows its many uses including cigar cutter, nail cleaner, cutting seams, sharpening a pencil or opening mail or packages. The reverse side is an advertisement for Auto Strop Shaving Cream. The blade holder is marked with the knife and company information and it has a single edged blade which would appear to be original. It comes with what appear to be the original but unmarked box.
The fob measures about ¾" wide by 2 3/8" long in the closed position, excluding the loop. The blade measures about 1 ½" long and the total length when open including the loop is about 4 ¼". It is in very good condition with minimal scuff wear to the housing. There is some loss of plating along the edge so the base metal is showing through but not on the faces. The blade appears to be in nice condition.
The paper insert measures about 4 ¼" by 6 ¼" and is creased from being folded in the box and has some color bleed through. The box measures about 1 1/8" by 2 ¾" and is quite water stained.
