Old Porcelain Match Holder with Black Cat like Felix

This vintage porcelain piece is in wonderful Halloween orange with a black cat poised in the front. The cat looks very much like the early examples of Felix the Cat. Behind the cat, attached to the base, there are 9 cylinders. Some have called this a pencil holder but I feel this piece is probably a matchsafe since the back of the base has a ridged panel which would be used for striking the old, strike-anywhere matches. The cylinders could have been used to hold cigarettes and the cat could have held the matches or the matches could have been in the cylinders and the spent matches could have gone in the cat. The eyes of the cat appear to be glass. It is incised on the bottom with Germany and the number 6043.

It measures about 2 ¼" to the top of the cats ears and the base measures about 2 ¼" in diameter. It is in good condition with minimal wear.
