This vintage purse is made of an early plastic sometimes referred to as Bakelite or Catalin. The plastic is thick and slightly translucent and it has a rich butterscotch color. It has a clamshell design with both halves deeply carved to a scalloped edge. The flat band in the middle has round beads to which a goldtone chain is attached. It also has a goldtone clasp that catches on a small brad to snap tightly closed. It is a nice size to be used as a fashionable clutch bag. One side is hinged and inside is a single, open compartment. There is no maker or other identifying marks. There was a fabric label scotch taped inside that reads; Original Design by Marie Dentz. I don't believe this has to do with the maker of the purse. It may have been a way for the previous owner to identify it as being hers. I believe it is from the 1930's.
It measures about 11 ½" wide at the base and 7 ½" by 4" high and about 2 3/8" deep at the middle. The chain extends about 6" from the top. It is in very condition with minimal wear and the clasp works properly.
