This is a simple, vintage drawing done is pastel chalks. The tranquil scene looks like a gravel road with a narrow bridge over a stream. As the road makes a bend to the right it appears that it tucks into a heavily treed area. It's a bit amateurish but at the same time the simplicity gives it charm. At first glance it appears to be set in an oak frame however the frame is actually made of a soft wood with a painted oak grain. The outer edge is nicely detailed with a scroll carving and the edge next to the glass also has relief with gold accent. It appears to be held into the frame with the original cardboard backing and thin nails. I find no signature on the art work itself, however along one end of the frame, in pencil, it reads; Mrs. Gitchell 11 x 19 1/2. This could perhaps be the name of the artist and the actual size of the painting.
The painting is in nice condition however there has been contact between the pastel and the glass so there are "smudged" areas. I have tried to show several angles to allow for glare and reflection. The frame is in very good condition minimal wear. There is some scuffing along the back edge that rubs against the wall. Overall it measures about 21" by 12 1/2" by 3/4".
