Old Syroco Cigarette Box with Mallard in Flight

This sharp looking vintage cigarette box looks like it is made of carved wood but is actually made of a composition material referred to as Syroco. The material is a combination of a wood compound and casting fluids that were poured into molds. It was first used by the Syracuse Ornamental Company which later became Syroco, Inc. but other companies also used the process to create decorative pieces like this box with a mallard in flight over the cattails. This was made by Multi Products, Inc. of Chicago and has a 1946 copyright inside. This is mostly finished in wood tones but the head of the duck is painted.

It base measures about 4 5/8" by 3 5/8" by 1 1/2" and because of the tapered design the lid measures about 4 1/4" by 3 1/8". It is in very good condition with minimal wear. The orange paint on the beak it chipped off and there is a little wear to one lower corner which is shown in the pictures. There are some manufacturing mold flaws on the bottom of the base but no damage.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
