This vintage desk top wire stapler is a nice looking office piece plus still quite functional. The face plate of the body reads; Mercury Jr. and on the bottom it shows it was from the Consolidated Wire Products Co. of New York. Most of the steel body is painted silver with the exception of the body portion below the palm knob. There is a push lever on the bottom that allows you to rotate the strike plate. It makes the staples flare, two different configurations, as well as the standard, turned in and under that is typical. Although it states; For Better Results Use Only Mercury Staples, it does take Standard ½" by ¼" staples such as Swingline #1's. I would assume that it dates from the mid 1930's to the 1950's.
It measures about 6 3/8" by 2 1/4" by 3 ½" high and is in fairly good original, usable condition. The unpainted metal has some light discoloration and some areas of the paint are good and other areas show wear. The rubber feet on the bottom are hardened by age but otherwise in good condition.
