This is a vintage Allegro Model L Automatic Honing and Stropping Machine for Safety Razor Blade. It appears this will allow for the sharpening of several different double edged blades but not single edge or wedge blades. It has a three face sharpening body with two different grade stones and a leather side. It was made in Switzerland and the last U.S. patent dating it to about 1932. It comes with its original instructions and paper hinged, maroon colored cardboard box which has graphics on the inside and the Allegro name on the paper covering.
The box measures about 5 ½" by 3 3/8" by 1 ½" and the device fits snuggly inside. The sharpener is in basically good original, operable condition with light wear. There is some pitting and discoloration on the metal but the overall housing is fairly nice. The stones are intact, not chipped or broken and the leather pad is in used condition with a few small slits and some abrasion. The box shows wear with some stains, scuffs, edge and corner wear and small tears. The paper hinge is slightly loose and the name on the lid was probably gold colored originally but is worn and barely legible.
