Old, Miniature Book - Thought - Treasures, Marcus Aurelius -
This little book is; Thought - Treasures From the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius. The Prefatory Note explains that this little book of 64 pages contains extracts from the Roman emperor's work, Meditations, which was a record of moral and religious principles the philosopher believed in. It includes a photo page of a bust of Marcus Aurelius who was emperor from 161 to 180. It has a hard cover cloth outer spine and sewn binding. In the center of the cover is a celluloid medallion with a shield or coat of arms which reads; Province of British Columbia There is no publishing date by the publishers Valentine & Anderson, Ltd. of Edinburgh - Valentine & Sons, Ltd. of Dundee & London, but I believe it is from the early 1900's.
It measures about 2 7/16" by 3" by 7/16" and is in nice condition with some age and use wear. The cover shows a little crack and peeling wear and the corners worn. The spine edge was apparently velvet covered but most of the nap is worn off. The celluloid button is slightly concave and has scratch wear but is not cracked. The inside pages are generally clean. The pages are in tact except for the photo pages but the spine is tearing away from the inside edge as shown in the photos.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
