Old Child's Stover Junior Waffle Iron with Original Box

Old Child's Stover Junior Waffle Iron with Original Box

This is a vintage miniature cast iron waffle iron was sold as a toy but one that a little girl could actually use to make waffles with. It is a Stover Junior #8 and is made just like Mom's full size one, two halves with wooden handles that fit together and rest in the cooking ring which has a metal handle. It originally sold for 50 cents and it comes in its original cardboard box and an instruction sheet that even has a recipe for making crisp waffles that can also be used for ice cream sandwiches. The box has fun graphics with a little girl putting batter into her iron while her mother is fixing waffles on the stove. The pamphlet repeats that image plus has an ad for other Stover irons which are Approved with the Good Housekeeping seal. It was manufactured by the Stover Mfg. & Engine Co. of Illinois.

The plates of the waffle iron measure about 3 7/8" in diameter and the overall length of the iron measures about 7". The outer cooking ring measures about 4 3/4" in diameter and the overall length of it measures about 7". It is in very good but used condition, even the cooking ring retains some of its original black japanning. The wood handles are slightly discolored where they connect to the cast iron. There is no damage to the cast iron.

The box measures about 5 3/16" by 6 11/16" by 1 ½" high and is in fair condition with some soiling and edge wear to the paper. The name "Stover" has been outlined with a hard pencil at some time. The paper sheet measures almost 6 1/2" by 11 1/2". It is quite nice with the information it offers but besides having some soiling it has a rust ring probably from the wet base being put in the box on top of the instructions.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
