Old Child's Straw Hat and Matching Rattan Purse

This vintage purse and hat set would have been so fun for a little girl to receive. The woven straw hat is trimmed with fringed green felt and decorated with small patchwork squares of fabric. To the side is a little person made of spun cotton, flannel and chenille. It has an elastic chin strap with metal ends but the elastic is all stretched out. The little handbag appears to be made of woven rattan and on the front it is decorated in the same style as the hat with the felt, fabric squares and funny little person. It is an open style bag with no clasp and two handles. These will be shipped in the box I received them in which is probably the box they were purchased in originally. The lid on the box reads; The Youth Center - Fashion Center - Gateway Shopping Center, Edwardsville, Pa. I believe it is from the 1940's or 50's.

The outside brim of the hat measures about 9 ¾" in diameter and it measures about 4 ¼" high. The inside circumference measurement is about 19 ¾". The purse measures about 9" wide, 6" high excluding the handle, 8 ½" high with the handle and 3" deep at the bottom. Both pieces are in very good condition with minimal wear. The elastic strap has already been described and it appears the little person on the hat is missing its little red nose. There also appears to be a little green discoloration to the bottom of the purse. The box show some wear and tears and staining and is generally in fair condition.
