Old Elks Grand Lodge Lithographed Tin Plate - 1907
This beautifully detailed vintage metal plate was from the B.P.O.Elks Grand Lodge Re-Union - Philadelphia - July 15-20, 1907. In the center is a proud elk with subdued mountains in the background. The outer ring of the plate has a heavily gilded dark green and maroon design with seven historical insets. There are fine detailed pictures of Wm. Penn, Public Buildings, Liberty Bell, Elk's Home, Washington Monument, Independence Hall and Betsy Ross. It is characteristic of the quality seen in Vienna Art Plates although it is not marked with anything on the back.
It measures about 9 5/8" in diameter and is in good condition with minor wear as noted here. There is some dark discoloration to some of the gilding along the outer edge. There is a nick in the Betsy Ross inset as well as a blemish over the flag of that inset and there are also two nicks on the elk in the center. The entire plate has very fine crazing but also has good gloss and is a beautiful presentation piece.
