Advertising Dexterity Puzzle with Monkeys in Original Tin Case
This lightweight cardboard puzzle has an illustration with two monkeys that was probably done by Lawson Wood. The larger monkey is blowing on the spout of a watering can like it's a saxophone and the other little monkey is "playing a drum" with a spoon and a straw hat. The puzzle is a skill game that comes in a thin tin box. The inside of the box has a numbered layout where the puzzle piece start leaving one spot blank. The object is to move the pieces around, without removing them from the box, until they create the picture. At the bottom it reads; Pat. Pend. B & B (Brown & Bigelow, I believe) St. Paul, Minn.. What is equally fun is the advertising on the outside of the painted red tin. In black it reads; Zig Zag - This is No Monkey Business - Compliments of Magel Automobile Company - Twin Falls, Idaho - We Hope To See All Of You Next Fall. I believe this is probably from the 1930's.
The tin measures about 4" by 5" by 1/16" and is in very good condition with rich color and gloss and minimal wear. The puzzle pieces have light edge wear and are lightly soiled and slightly warped.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
