Antique (1897) Victorian Gothic Last Rites ~ Sick Call (12 Pc) Set

This Gothic set was used, by Catholic priests, during housecalls to perform Holy Communion ~ for sick calls or last rites for those that were dying. Included in this 12 piece set is: fabric-lined case with (2) non-removeable candle-holders (that are built-into the case and used as a "table-top alter") case measures 12" x 8" x 3" ~ with working latch and metal tag on front that reads: "Sick-Call Cabinet for Holy Communion". Contents include: "Sick Call Instructions" (distributed by Langan & Brother, NY) ~ very heavy silver-plated crucifix (measuring 7" high) ~ envelope printed with angel & cross (with original cotton swath) ~ (1) 5" wax candle ~ and (2) "Quadruple Silverplate" offering plates, and (2) Quadruple plate Communion plates ~ all engraved and measure 5" ~ (1) glass Holy water bottle with silver-plated dimensional-crown finial & raised-cross on glass (may possibly be a replacement). Trays are marked on reverse: "Sick Call Outfit ~ Quadruple-Plate ~ Special Metal (with anvil) ~ Homan Silverplate Co ~ Pat'd April '97" (dated 1897). Some small spots of wear on reverse of plated trays and on edge of case (and area for an additional candle)
