Mauchline Ware 19th Century Bank
A very nice 19th Century Mauchline Ware Bank as a souvenir from France with the transfer on the top of the `Nouveau Sanctuaire DE N.D. DE Fourviere'. ( New Sanctuary of N.D. Fourviere, Lyon, France)
This mauchline ware item was made in Scotland for the tourist trade who would be visiting this new sanctuary. The bank was hand crafted and made of Sycamore wood. The bank has a front slot for the money and measures 4" long 2 5/8" wide and 2 3/16" high. The top has a slight dome design.
Mauchline ware was made to last and after selecting the wood and construction there would be many, many and many more coats of shellac/clean lacquer applied. The original type of blotter paper applied to the underside of the bank is still intact. This is a great coin bank that could be used and added to a collection.
