Wedgwood Edward VIII Coronation Tea Set

Circa 1937. Rare Wedgwood Jasperware coronation tea set. What makes this set extra unusual is the fact that Edward VIII was never coroneted. He abdicated the throne to marry an American divorcee before his coronation could take place. Besides it's historical significance and rarity, this set is a fine example of Wedgwood Jasperware with a brilliant blue color and crisp, pure white decoration. An identical set is in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. The set is fresh from a local Brooklyn estate and appears to be unused. Unfortunately, the spout of the tea pot was damaged when we received it so we have had it professionally restored and no damage is visible to the naked eye. Alas, this renders it suitable for display only. The very top of the cover on the sugar also looks slightly rough but I believe this is original to it's making. More pictures available. Tea pot 5" tall x 9" wide x 6 1/2" deep, sugar bowl 4 3/4" tall x 5 1/2" wide x 5" deep, creamer 2 1/2" tall x 5" wide x 4" deep. Price $1200 for the set.
