I was fortunate to purchase a number of items from Mary Pickford's estate; beautiful items that were displayed in Pickfair, the magical and romantic estate of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks. This original vintage black and white photo is embossed "Hurrell," and shows Mary Pickford as an angel holding many Easter lilies.
Note en verso written in Mary Pickford's hand reads
"Mary Pickford in Easter Sunrise Services Hollywood Blvd Only Copy - Kindly return. Thank you. Pickfair 1143 Summit Dr. Beverly Hills Cal"
There is a notation on bottom en verso "Above notation made by Mary Pickford."
Size: 14 inches tall by 11 inches wide.
Condition: There are no tears or creases, however there is an area in the upper left part of the photo that is smudged or perhaps had a bit of liquid. It is very hard to see. When looking at the photo in person, one is unaware of it because it seems to "disappear" in the dark background. I have tried to lighten my photos to show it more.
Circa late 1920s to early 1930s.
Provenance: Mary Pickford's Estate.
Mary Pickford (April 8, 1892 – May 29, 1979) was a Canadian-American motion picture actress, co-founder of the film studio United Artists and one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Known as "America's Sweetheart", "Little Mary" and the "girl with the curls", she was one of the Canadian pioneers in early Hollywood and a significant figure in the development of film acting.
In consideration of her contributions to American cinema, the American Film Institute named Pickford 24th among the greatest female stars of all time.
