A rarely seen milk glass two piece set of a Fox on a Basket c 1900 made by the Atterbury Glass Co.
The top piece is a fox with the bottom a lacey basket ("lattice edging").
The top piece is marked inside "pat'd Aug 6 1889"
Size: 8" long 6 1/2" wide & 7" tall
Condition: Unfortunately, there are some issues with the condition of the base. There are several cracks, as well as considerable staining. I have not tried to clean it since I generally prefer to present items in "as found" condition.
The top of the piece has no issues. I understand that some of the Atterbury pieces had "eyes" added. If that is the case with this piece, than that would be missing from the top.
All told, I would call this in Fair Condition. Still very lovely to display.
There is some disagreement as to when Atterbury closed, with some saying 1898 and others as late as 1903. This set was made in the last quarter of the 19th century or, at the latest, 1902.
When this piece can be found in Good to Very Good Condition, the price would be in the $300 to $400 range. We have substantially reduced the price due to condition.
