This is one of my most prized possessions. The bird sings so strongly and beautifully. The entire piece is a joy to behold.
There is a cherub on top who seems to think he is the conductor. Other cherubs are depicted in medium to high relief playing instruments, and one playing with the bird.
The key winds the mechanism. There is an "on-off" lever on the side of the top tier.
Size: The height to the top of the "conductor's" baton is 8 and 1/4 inches. The bottom tier is 7 and 3/4 inches x 4 and 1/2 inches. The top tier is 4 x 2 and 1/2 inches.
Circa mid 1800s.
Condition: The bird signs gloriously well. The silver does not appear to have any losses. The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
