Original Oil On Canvas - Amsterdam Scene - Signed, Didier

On one of our trips to Europe in the 1980s, we visited Amsterdam and found this painting. Amsterdam had always been a favorite city of mine then (not so much today, but that is another story). I loved the canals and the architecture and liveliness, but most of all the people. When travelers who had extensive experience spoke in those days, many times one heard "everyone loves the Dutch." A warm and courteous people then.

This scene drew me to it by its warmth and also by its details. I bought this in a gallery and unfortunately did not meet the artist, but the following is what I was told, and I have attached it to the back of the painting.

"DIDIER A native of Amsterdam, Holland, son of a prosperous businessman. In spite of his father's tempting offers to work for him he dedicated himself to the fine arts and graduated from the Royal Academy of his home town. He works in fine detail, a manner rarely used these days as it requires a great deal of time. His Amsterdam views are very popular."

Size: Framed 32 and 1/2 inches tall. 28 inches wide. 2 and 3/4 inches deep. Canvas by sight (not out of the frame) - 23 and 1/2 inches tall. 19 and 1/2 inches wide.

Condition: Very Good. I can find no damage.

Signed: Lower Right.

Circa: late 1980s.
