Italian Marble Eagle Paperweight, Circa mid 1900s.

I love eagles. They are so regal and imposing. Both of the marble eagles I am listing today have an air of arrogance or superiority captured by the carvers.

This eagle is represented in a regal pose as if surveying his domain. He has some old glue or lacquer around his legs and the back of the base. He is carved in two pieces, and was probably not attached too well to the base. His head is carved very well, with the eyes pronounced. The wings are very nicely and naturally "dove tail".

Size: Overall is 3 and 1/2 inches. The eagle only is 3 inches. The base adds 1/2 inch.

CONDITION No damage. The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.

Provenance: Leslie Hindman Auction.
