This is a rare pair of antique cold painted Vienna or Wiener Bronze cast in the traditional lost wax technique (cire perdue) by Franz Bergmann, the renowned workshop which created great pieces with the highest quality level and the highest collectors and resale value.
We are proud to offer you a listed erotic masterpiece by this famed workshop, a classic.
The two larger scale figurines are separate and can be moved to form different variations to be displayed like the innocent welcome gesture or the less innocent set up with the satyr behind the nymph who is leaning on a podium decorated with floral ornaments.
Both pieces are created with the perfection of the early art of Austrian bronze making, more attention was paid to the detail compared with the contemporary ones.
I hope the pictures are not offensive to anyone as they are intended to be art. If you should feel offended by the images please close this site immediately.
The Faun (Satyr) is ca. 4 1/2 " (11.5 cm) tall, the nymph slightly shorter. Condition - Very Good to Excellent. Only minor paint losses. Original paint, no restoration, no repairs, no touch ups.
The pieces have the Bergmann foundry mark. Circa 1900 -1920s.
Franz Bergmann (1838 - 1894) was a professional chaser from Gablonz who came to Vienna and founded a small bronze factory in 1860. His son Franz Xaver Bergmann (1861 - 1936) inherited the Company and opened a new foundry in 1900.
From that time the Bergmann bronzes were marked with the "jar" mark and outstanding works were signed "Nam Greb" (Bergman spelled backwards). Many of the bronzes from the 1900s were still based on designs by Franz Bergmann the elder.
