This fine Buddha, seated in the posture called dhyanasana, has been skillfully crafted, as one can tell by the intricate folds in his clothing and the curls on his head. His facial features are equally fine and he displays a reserved and devout expression. He is seated in meditation with his legs crossed. He is 11 inches tall, and in Very Good to Excellent Condition with a wonderful red patina.. I believe this amazing piece was inspired by the famous original sculpture of Amitabha Buddha, which is worshipped by the followers of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism as a saviour. The original sculpture was cast in 1252 and it is Kamakura's most important tourist site. It depicts Amida Buddha in the style of The Great Buddha of Kamakura (Daibutsu in Japanese). Amida is a representation of Buddha Amitabha, the Lord of the Western Pure Land.
