This is a highly elegant and precious Chinese GILT COPPER REPOUSSE figure in the shape of a reclining deer with neatly incised and embossed ornaments resembling dragons and Ruyi shapes. This imposing miniature artwork dates back to the LIAO DYNASTY (907 - 1125)
This impressive Liao dynasty sculpture is made of precious gilt copper repousse and shows a masterly rendered deer set onto a rectangular base. The majestic animal has long ears as well as a swung tail and is depicted in a reclining posture with its head turned to the back. Allover this fine figurine has been neatly decorated with ornamental decors and some areas are crafted in high relief whilst others display intricate chase work. The decors include symbolist Ruyi shapes as well as coiled dragons enhancing the archaic appearance in an utmost appealing manner.
The fine combination of the fire gilding, the detailed chase work and the beautiful Malachite patina add very well to the exquisite and precious appearance of this early Chinese treasure!

CONDITION: Very good ORIGINAL as found condition with minor dents to ears. Beautiful patina! NO RESTORATION!
