Macbeth is Shakespearean tragedy at its best. Macbeth was first performed in 1606, and was based on Scottish history. With the help (and urging) of his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth plots to usurp the throne. Three witches in the opening scene make cryptic predictions concerning his success.
