Art Deco Rhodonite Carving Of Spaniels, c 1920, Outstanding

This is a MASTERLY carved hard stone figure, crafted by a gifted artist in the 1920s. The artwork portrays a Spaniel with its pup and is carved from beautiful pink Rhodonite with striped grey inclusions. It appears to be either Cocker Spaniels or English Springer Spaniels.

This is a very fine hand carving.

Very good condition with few tiny nicks. Small chips to the larger dog's forepaws have been reattached - barely noticeable

Length is 5.3 inches. Height is 3.5 inches.

Created by a skilled artist during the Art Deco period, this precious and highly collectible hardstone figurine is made from bright pink Rhodonite with natural grey inclusions. This sculpture shows clear influence of Japanese Okimono carvings of the Meiji period. The renowned artist workshops of Faberge and Cartier competed each other with eccentric and fancy animal portrayals and hence made this art form highly popular amidst European collectors.

This carving shows the naturalistic portrayals of a Spaniel and her puppy. The mother is depicted in a reclining posture and the puppy has climbed onto her back. The family resemblance cannot be denied!

The sculpture has been carved with anatomical correctness, neatly incised fur and delightful facial expressions. Don't miss out on the opportunity to add such a lovely Art Deco piece to YOUR collection!
