Royal Doulton - FIRST VERSION of "Dick Turpin" - Vintage Discontinued Mini Jug - "A" Mark - c late 1930s
Small Royal Doulton Character Jug of Dick Turpin.
Dick (1705 - 1739) joined forces with fellow highwayman Tom King, whom he accidentally shot. Before he died, King betrayed him, and Dick Turpin was hanged in 1739 for the murder of an Epping Forest Gamekeeper.
Designed by Charles Noke and Harry Fenton.
Produced by Royal Doulton between 1940-1960.
Mask on the hat indicates that this is the first version.
Handle forms a pistol gun.
Measures : 2 1/4" (5.7 cm) in height.
Condition: Good. No chips, no cracks, no repairs. Evidence of age related crackling and crazing seen all over.
Signed: Royal Doulton England ~ A Hand painted letter P which is probably for the artist.
This is Doulton Catalogue Number D6128. It is listed in the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Royal Doulton Jugs, Ninth Edition, as $75.00, but I believe their price has gone up since then.
