French Georgian Glamour: Paste Hair Comb

An accessory for the only most fashionable of Georgian ladies, here is a large and superb natural tortoise shell and paste hair comb. A hinged tiara-like arch of acid tested silver widely spreads its wings. All hand cut, fifteen (15) marvelous white cushion cut pastes graduated in size from 5 mm to a most impressive 10 mm.

The arched configuration is such that the versatile accessory can be placed at the back or at the crest of the head. Four prongs of natural tortoise shell brandish that coveted random pattern coco brown with variegated caramel markings. The beautifully finished hair comb is perfect for a collection or personal wear.

Date: Circa 1840.

Measurements: 3-3/4 inches (9.5 cm) in total length. Paste area is 7/16 of an inch (1.1 cm) in length by 4-1/2 inches (11.5 cm) in width. Tortoiseshell comb is 3-3/8 inches (8.7 cm) in length by 1-1/8 inches (2.8 cm) in width. Weight of 37.3 grams (24.0 dwt).

Condition: Excellent; light wear to pastes visible with magnification.
