Vintage Caley's Chocolate box Commemorating 1949 visit H.M.S. Vanguard

George V1 and Queen Mary, & the Royal Family, were going to conduct a tour of Commonwealth countries following the end of WW11. They were to travel aboard H.M.S. VANGUARD which was the last Battleship built for the Royal Navy being commissioned after the end of the war. The tour was canceled due to the Kings ill health but of course memorabilia had already been produced to commemorate the Grand Occaision. This is one such Patriotic item showing H.M.S Vanguard on the lid and with the music to God Save The King on one side, and God Defend New Zealand, on the other.

The box is a bit scruffy with some writing on it and stains, paper wear etc, but it still a highly collectible item of Empire, Royalty, and Naval memorabilia. The Vanguard was de-commissioned in 1950.
