This beauty is the rare Art Deco 1930's 'Skyscraper' FISK Radiolette by AWA....termed the "Empire State"....a tube radio made of a beautiful mottled creme Bakelite with chrome dial bezel surround. Amalgamated Wireless Australia (A.W.A.) produced a number of Radiolette models over the years in a variety of sizes, designs, and materials but this is the one that every radio collector wants. This 1936 model is officially named "The Fisk" (in honor of Australian radio pioneer Sir Ernest Fisk). This model is also referred to as "The Skyscraper" by collectors for obvious architectural reasons... it is reputedly the first Bakelite case radio ever produced in Australia. This radio is the Australian version of the American Air King "Skyscraper" designed by Harold Van Doren. The Fisk has very appealing strong Art Deco design elements including the stepped "Skyscraper" design, molded vertical and horizontal rounded cross-ribbing that heightens the cabinet's exceptional look. This wonderful radio is in good working condition without any flaws or faults to the bakelite case.....the perspex dial cover is quite brown but that appears the to be the only possible flaw with it.
