The painting is 9" x 7" framed and comes with a postcard of Alice Springs also signed and dated by the artist plus the original invoice.Born in Holland in 1921, Guth studied at a local art school before its closure in World War II. Guth spent these years underground, removing the Star of David from Jewish passports before they were raided by German forces. Guth was jailed until the war ended in 1945. He later studied at the Art Academy in Amsterdam. He migrated to Australia in the 1960's and fell in love with the Australian outback. In 1966 he moved to Alice Springs where he opened his art gallery. The gallery was known for its wide selection of Aboriginal paintings and artifacts and for his 'Panorama' sited in a building of its own. Some 6.1m in height, this huge, artificially lit oil painting extended for 61m around the walls of a circular room and had become a popular tourist attraction. Henk Guth has spent his incredible artistic carrier capturing Central Australian landmarks. Regrettably in 2005 his gallery was destroyed by fire.
