Rare Bolivian Roman Catholic Vaya Cane or Processional Staff

A fabulous and rare VAYA CANE made in Chonta Wood with Alpaca Silver decorated overlay and a Colonial Cross in the form of an Eagle sitting on the repousse worked cap. These Processional Canes or Batons were usually carried by Church Elders or members of the Cofradia Church Botherhood at special Religious Events & Processions.This wonderful Devotional Piece measures 33" in length and dates to the early 1900's. The Alpacca Silver is commonly used in the SOUTH AMERICAN ANDEAN REGION and is an alloy of zinc, nickel, and iron with properties similar to stainless steel in that it does not rust or tarnish.
