A bit of a Whopper this one.... it measures 11 1/2" in length and is about 3" across at the base...not including the decorative ring with attached feathers..... it tapers to about 2" across at the top. Beautifully woven and constructed from a mixture of woven fibers and bark inner with decorative native bird feathers attached at base. The wearing of DECORATIVE 'WILLY' SHEATHS is still common in the Highlands and other remote areas of PNG. This one certainly " makes a statement" .....it was collected by a New Zealander in the NEW GUINEA HIGHLANDS IN 1969 and has been in storage ever since. Not often available! Sorry....it is a PEN*S SHEATH but I'm unable to describe it correctly due to Ruby Lane's editing policy.... yet 'the word' is in fact in every dictionary available to mankind to the best of my knowledge!
