If you have a large fireplace and want to make a real "Statement" then these very impressive huge and ornate Fire Dogs will do it for you. Each weighs about 3.5kilos and stands 15" tall with a width across the legs of 9 1/2". The large 'ball" is hollow and together with the top filial sits on a metal screw thread fixing it to the base. The base part with it's Lions Head and Paws is solid brass.. The Andirons are missing the back supports but any engineering company would be able to make a pair of iron support legs to fit these without any difficulty at all....the thread holes are both in good condition. I would say the existing internal thread screw is relatively new.... no-doubt to the rusting away of the original after some 100 plus years. No makers marks that I can see but will be of English origin. I would think these date to the mid to late Victorian period.
