Nude Oil Painting By New Zealand Artist Gerald Mahon
Gerald Mahon (1914 - 2002) was a student at Elam School of Arts in Auckland during the 1930s. His tutors include the well-known New Zealand artists Johnnie Weeks and Ida Ease. Gerald was a commercial artist for the Auckland Star newspaper before the outbreak of World War Two. In his early forties he painted in England and Europe. He was the coordinator of the Wednesday night life group at the Auckland Society of Arts in Eden Crescent. He became a life member of the Society in the 1970s. He is archived in the Auckland Art Gallery. His paintings span sixty years until failing health forced him to retire in the 1980s. His work has been reviewed by T.J. McNamara, the Auckland Herald art critic. Gerald explored a wide variety of subjects including still life, landscapes and nudes. His paintings hang in England, Canada, United States and New Zealand. I am Gerald Mahon's daughter and am selling the paintings on his behalf. Appropriately framed this piece will be a real focal talking piece as the artist has certainly depicted a rawness and sexuality that projects strongly in the painting. ## WE HAVE SEVERAL OTHER ORIGINAL OILS OF NUDES BY THIS ARTIST....EMAIL PHOTOS& DETAILS WILL BE FORWARDED ON REQUEST.
