1710 First Edition 'L' Esprit De Guy Patin'

From the LYNN PUBLIC LIBRARY this very old book has their sticker on the inside frontal page along with an ex owners name and date of 1831. On the next page is a pencil notation...Auction Leonard's, June, 1879. Tape to inside frontal cover and a weevil hole at bottom right which affects the first 80 pages but does not affec the text at all. Otherwise a very clean copy....some slight age browning mainly to edges but no foxing or age spotting present. A smallish book at 6 1/2" x 4" with 272 pages. Amsterdam Edition MDCCX.

Sir William Osler writes: "Gui Patin is unique in our annals. There is no one for comparison. Scores of doctors have written letters; none save his remain as a permanent contribution to literature.Devoted to Hippocrates and the ancients, he opposed all progress, and detested antimony and the chemists as much as the Jesuits and their bark. He was a devoted book-lover and collected a library of ten thousand volumes." EXCELLENT VALUE here for a Collector
