I have placed this as Circa 1890-1900 but may well be earlier. A wonderful thing decorated with gargoyles, dragons, and baroque musings. The gentleman with the book I take to be that most famous of English poets ...one William Shakespeare. The bell depicts a Boar (BOS), an Angel (ANGELYS), and a Pelican(PELICANYS). The clanger inside the bell has long since rusted off and a new needs to be fitted...otherwise in marvelous condition. The green look is verdigris and the bronze can be seen showing through in some parts. A very heavy and solid old item that would be just fabulous in the front entrance of a Manor House or similar. Measures 11 3/4" in height and stands out from wall 5 3/4". Weighs 3.5lbs.
