A very nice little shipping souvenir from a ship that in the 1930's and 40's was the pride of the Dutch line STOOMVAART MAATSCHAPPIJ NEDERLAND. The ship was launched in 1929 and had a crew of 360 with a passenger count of 770. She was originally on the Holland to Dutch West Indies route but later in the 1950's and early 60's was used on the Holland to Australia run shipping Dutch migrants. In 1963 she was bought by a Greek Company but after only 8 months service suffered an on-board fire with the loss of 132 lives. and eventually sunk whilst under tow.
