This marvelous necklace has markings all over it! It is signed by the maker, R. RANFT (also also "R.R.." There is a mark that reads "8135" or "8345" -- cannot quite decipher! However, it may actually be an "S" rather than a "5". It has the mark for Salzburg, Austria (3), and has the hoopoe bird mark from 1922 or after. Judging from the components and style of this beautiful necklace, it would be from approximately the 1920s. It also has a "3" which signifies .835 silver, a European mark.
There are seven strands of dark, rich garnet beads on either side of the ornate centerpiece. There is a large garnet at the center of the piece and then garnets and pearls set around the border.
The centerpiece measures 2" in either direction. The clasp is a wide push-in style and very sturdy and ornate. The wearable length is approximately 14 1/2" to 15", so a slender neck is mandatory!
What an absolutely stunning treasure and in excellent condition!
