Art Nouveau Sterling Overlay Small Squatty Shaped Perfume Bottle

This is a Art Nouveau Sterling Overlay Perfume Bottle and has a small squatty shape to it. Stopper: It has a flat mushroom shaped blown stopper. It is decorated in silver overlay with (4) flower loops / petals across the top of the stopper and the design curves down under the stopper. It has no silver decoration on the neck of the stopper. It is numbered #849 on the stopper. The stopper measures 1 3/8" tall and 1 1/4" across the top. Perfume: It is decorated in silver overlay with Art Nouveau scrolling designs and has (2) Iris Flower designs and a small oval Medallion for a Monogram and is engraved "FHA" sideways. The Bottle is engraved with the number # e849 on the bottom of it and it is ground and has a polished bottom. It measures 2 5/8" tall with the stopper & bottle, just the bottle is 1 7/8" tall and is 2 1/4" across the bottom and a 1" across the polished bottom and 1 1/4" across the bottle collar. The collar has an outline of silver overlay and another outline down further on the collar. It is in very good condition other than a piece of Silver Overlay has come loose a little bit by the Monogram Medallion. Two American companies, Gorham & Alvin, dominated the scene and created some of the most exquisite examples available using thick overlays of sterling silver. They both used glass blanks from the Steuben glassworks. Another honorable mention is the La Pierre company, though not as highly detailed as Gorham or Alvin, but nonetheless, beautiful bottles. These higher end bottles usually have an area where a monogram could be engraved, often you will find bottles with owners name or initials in fancy flourishing script. We find this adds a lot of charm to the bottles as well as their History as the engraving is a work of art, which has become almost a lost art. As there are numerous bottles that have cracks in the glass, it is suspected that this is a common occurrence with bottles which have thicker overlay.
