Long Victorian Linen Towel with Cross Stitch Decoration

This unusually long (14" wide X 72" long) homespun linen towel is over 100 years old; it dates from the Victorian era. The linen has a stripe woven into it. The embroidery work is brown and turkey red (a dye discontinued around 1900) with some fading. One end has a fancy cross-stitch design, and the other has a similar cross-stitch design with the addition of the initials "C.S." Both ends have a 3 1/2" crocheted edging. The towel is soft with many washings but is in excellent condition nevertheless. This piece may be used as a table runner as well as a towel.
