This late nineteenth century Victorian brooch Is made of silver and tests sterling, but there are no marks. Possibly the marks were covered (or polished out) when the pin bar was added; the pin bar and fastenings are base metal and are old but not original. Pieces like this were made in Scotland and popularized by Queen Victoria. The top of the pin is a nice open design with pretty engraving on the silver. There are sixteen pieces of bluish-gray polished agate cut into different shapes and glued into the front of the pin. These are the Scottish "pebbles." The pin measures 2 1/2" X 1 7/8" X 3/16" thick and weighs .43 oz.
