Fine Gold-Filled Shell Cameo Brooch
How lovely is the profiled woman in this cameo! She is finely carved with nice detail; her features are classical and delicate at the same time. The carver's art is shown in the beautifully depicted hair, in the placement of the natural coloration of the shell in the design, and the high profile of the shell. There are no marks on this cameo. This piece is gold-filled with a hand-fashioned bezel. It has a reverse-safety catch dating it around 1920. It was carved in Italy but could have been set anywhere. The brooch is 1 7/8" X 1 1/2" X 3/8" thick. This piece is in excellent original condition.
